Benalmádena Hike

Ah, Sundays. The perfect day to unwind, recharge, and maybe even explore something new. This past Sunday, my wife and I decided to trade the usual routine for a scenic hike in Benalmádena. Little did she know, the day held a secret agenda for me – a chance to experiment with videography using my trusty iPhone 13 and the Clips app.

As a still photographer, I’m comfortable capturing moments in a single frame. But lately, there’s been a burning desire to delve into the world of moving images. So, with phone in hand and a heart full of curiosity, I set off on our hike with the dual purpose of enjoying quality time with my wife and exploring the potential of mobile videography.

The trail itself was a photographer’s dream. Lush greenery, dappled sunlight filtering through the trees, and breathtaking vistas unfolding with every turn – all begging to be captured. But this time, I resisted the urge to freeze them in a single shot. Instead, I started experimenting with the Clips app.

I filmed my wife as she skipped ahead, her laughter echoing through the trees. I captured the mesmerising dance of leaves in the wind and the panoramic views stretching before us. The app’s user-friendly interface made it easy to add playful filters and stickers, injecting a touch of fun into the footage.

While the final product is no cinematic masterpiece, it was an exhilarating first step in my videography journey. It allowed me to see the world from a new perspective, capturing not just the essence of a scene, but also its movement, sound, and emotions.

More importantly, it added a whole new dimension to our shared experience. We laughed together as we reviewed the funny clips, reminiscing about the sights and sounds of the hike. It became an interactive way to relive the adventure, not just through still images but also through a dynamic storytelling experience.

This Sunday may have started as a simple hike with my wife, but it turned into a valuable learning experience for me as a photographer. It solidified my fascination with the world of videography and the unique storytelling possibilities it offers. The journey might be filled with trial and error, but with a smartphone in my pocket and a thirst for creativity, I’m excited to see where it leads me next.

Who knows, maybe one day you’ll be seeing videography alongside my still photography on this very blog!
