Wait a second…, why is this post worth reading?

This was such an exciting trip to plan. I knew I will finally add another continent to my travel cabinet – AFRICA. A couple of years ago, on a vacation in Tarifa in Spain, I was so close. Just 15 km away! At that time I was deep in love with the book of Paolo CoelhoThe Alchemist and his protagonist Santiago. Santiago left his old life and traveled through the Sahara towards the pyramids to find a treasure that appeared to him in a repeating dream. Yes, I had to go to Africa.

Four years later I started my voyage to the mighty Sahara together with my motorbike buddy Uli. End of February was a great time to go, temperatures are not too high, so the skies are clear for photography and also traveling with a motorbike is still pleasant.

The route was determined by three milestones. Marrakesh, the High Atlas Mountains, and Merzouga right at the entrance of the Sahara. We had 10 days for about 2.500 km, some of them better, some of them worse. So I knew that this would be more of a reconnaissance trip, to get familiar with the country and the people and most of all, to scout some fantastic photo locations for a second trip.

At the time of my arrival in Tanger, it was very clear: This culture is so so different to what I experienced before, and the virus hit me in a second. The following 2-minute long video shows the beauty of this country out of a biker’s perspective. Hope you enjoy.

After an exciting journey with loads of amazing impressions of the country and people, we arrived in the desert and it took my breath away.

I was dreaming of this moment for a long time and it was a million times better to be there than to dream about it. We only had two days because some exciting kilometers on our way back were waiting. But it was enough for a sunrise and star photo session and the salty taste of more.

I hope I could inspire you for your own adventure into one of the teriffic deserts on our planet. With some research or the right guide it is definitely possible and worth the effort. The tranquility, the colours and the scent of Aladin and 1001 nights is a magnificent reward

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences, would love to see and hear them.

Let’s go Watson !
